Paul Totten

New Album Release July 24, 2026!!

 

Paul Totten is a versatile keyboardist, vocalist  and  songwriter based in the San Gabriel Valley, California. Inspired by his parents love of classic musicals, folk, and jazz legends like Oscar Peterson, Paul began playing piano at age six. He played trumpet and baritone horn through grade and middle school. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance from Humboldt State University, where he honed his skills in theory, composition and percussion. He also had the privelelge to study and play steel drums in Humboldt’s Calypso Band and drums in vocal jazz ensembles and combos.

During the pandemic, Paul shifted his focus from drums and percussion to piano and voice, writing and recording.  With the help of many friends, his debut album, Brightland Shines, will be released in July 2026.

Paul’s influences include the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Lucinda Williams, Talking Heads, and Little Feat. He has performed in  as well as in various local venues with local bands and drums, keys and vocals.

Now active in the Southern California music scene, Paul writes, records, and performs locally while continuing his studies in piano and voice.
